Most people with eczema or reactive skin know the frustration: you wash with a regular soap and it undoes whatever progress your moisturizer just made. The skin tightens, the itch comes back, and you're starting over. This combo exists because of that problem. The soap and the salve were formulated to complement each other — sharing the same key herbs so every step reinforces the last rather than working against it.
Standard soaps — even ones marketed as gentle — can be stripping, fragrant, or high in palm oil, all of which aggravate reactive and eczema-prone skin. This bar was made specifically to pair with the Emily Skin Soother salves: mild enough to cleanse without disrupting the skin barrier, and formulated with the same herbal foundation so it supports rather than undoes your routine.
What's Included
Skin Soothing Mild Bar Soap
WASH — Gentle Cleansing That Doesn't Set You Back
A mild, palm oil-free bar for sensitive, dry, and reactive skin — formulated to cleanse without stripping, and to work with your skincare routine rather than against it.
Built on a simple base of saponified olive, avocado, and coconut oils, this bar is noticeably less drying than standard soaps. No added fragrance. No added colors. No palm oil. The herbs mirror those in the Emily Skin Soother salve, so washing with this bar actively supports rather than disrupts the salve's effects.
- Palm oil-free — gentler on skin, gentler on the planet
- No added fragrance, no added colors
- Formulated for sensitive, dry, and reactive skin types
- Herbal ingredients that echo and reinforce the salve
- Gentle enough for daily use even during flare-ups
| Herb | Also Known As | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
|
Bei Zi Cao Potentillae Chinensis |
White Cinquefoil Root | Clears toxic heat from the skin. Especially effective at calming itch — a key symptom in eczema that most topicals address poorly. Rarely used in Western herbal products; more common in classical Chinese dermatology formulas. |
|
Dang Gui Angelica sinensis |
Chinese Angelica | Nourishes and moistens the skin. Used traditionally to support skin recovery and reduce dryness-related irritation. |
|
Bo He Mentha haplocalyx |
Chinese Mint | Gently cools the surface of the skin. Moves heat outward and reduces surface irritation without the harshness of camphor or menthol. |
Emily Skin Soother Salve (Unscented)
SOOTHE — Barrier-Supporting Daily Salve
Five ingredients. No fillers. This is where it started — made for one infant with eczema, and now one of the most effective products in the entire store.
The Emily Skin Soother is the salve we recommend first for eczema, keratosis pilaris, reactive mystery rashes, and sensitive skin of all kinds. The unscented version is especially well suited to dry-type eczema, babies, and anyone with fragrance sensitivity. Apply it after washing with the soap and it seals in the calm the cleanser started — layer by layer, wash by wash.
- Best for eczema (baby and adult), dry itchy rashes, and reactive skin
- Effective for keratosis pilaris — the rough, bumpy "chicken skin" that lotions don't resolve
- Supports rosacea and unexplained skin redness (the lavender version adds extra anti-inflammatory benefit)
- Safe for babies — the original formula was made for one
- Five ingredients only — nothing unnecessary
| Ingredient | Also Known As | Role in the Formula |
|---|---|---|
| Olive Oil | Olea europaea | Nourishing, skin-compatible base. Rich in oleic acid, which supports the skin barrier and absorbs well without clogging. |
| Beeswax | Cera alba | Natural barrier protection and texture. Seals in moisture without smothering the skin. |
|
Dang Gui Angelica sinensis |
Chinese Angelica Root | Nourishes and soothes the skin. Supports recovery in dry, cracked, and reactive tissue. |
|
Bei Zi Cao Potentillae Chinensis |
White Cinquefoil Root | Clears toxic heat and calms itch. A rare and specifically chosen herb — not the more common Zi Cao (which stains deeply red). Bei Zi Cao delivers the same heat-clearing and itch-relieving action in a clear, skin-compatible form. |
|
Bo He Mentha haplocalyx |
Chinese Mint | Gently cools and soothes surface irritation. Moves heat outward from the skin in a mild, non-stimulating way. |
Why This Combination Works
Who This Is For
| Skin Concern | How This Combo Helps |
|---|---|
| Eczema — baby & adult | The most soothing pairing in the Emily Skin Soothers line. The soap cleanses without stripping; the salve supports the skin barrier and calms itch between washes. |
| Keratosis Pilaris | That rough, bumpy "chicken skin" on arms and legs — especially the kind that flares after swimming or pool exposure. Consistent use of both products smooths texture in a way that drugstore lotions consistently don't. |
| Mystery rashes & contact reactions | Dry, itchy, red patches with no clear cause. This is often the first recommendation — the formula is clean enough to rule out product-triggered reactions while still actively calming the skin. |
| Rosacea & facial redness | The base formula supports this, though the Lavender salve version may offer additional benefit here. The soap is gentle enough for daily facial cleansing. |
| Fragrance-sensitive skin | Both products in this combo are fragrance-free. No added scent, no masking fragrance, no essential oils beyond what's in the herbal formula itself. |
How to Use
-
STEP 1 — WASH
Skin Soothing Mild Bar Soap
Lather gently with warm (not hot) water. Rinse well. Pat dry — don't rub. Use daily or as often as needed. This bar is gentle enough for everyday use even on actively irritated or flared skin.
Tip: If your skin is very reactive, start with cooler water and shorter contact time until you've confirmed the bar works for you. Patch test first if you haven't used it before.
-
STEP 2 — SOOTHE
Emily Skin Soother Salve
While skin is still slightly damp (within a few minutes of patting dry), apply a thin layer of salve to affected areas. 3–4 or more times daily during flare-ups; once or twice daily for maintenance.
Patch test first: Apply a small amount to an unaffected area once or twice before using on inflamed or reactive skin. A little goes a long way — start with a thin layer.
Clean Ingredients & Quality Notes
- Emily Skin Soother Salve: Five ingredients only. No parabens, sulfates, phthalates, silicones, synthetic fragrances, or dyes. Baby safe — the original formula was made for an infant.
- Skin Soothing Mild Bar Soap: Palm oil-free. Saponified olive, avocado, and coconut oil base. No added fragrance, no added colors. Formulated for sensitive, dry, and reactive skin types.
- Bei Zi Cao (Potentillae Chinensis): A deliberately chosen and rarely used alternative to the more common Zi Cao. Standard Zi Cao is effective but produces a deep red color — not ideal in a gentle salve. Bei Zi Cao delivers the same heat-clearing, itch-relieving action in a clear, skin-compatible form.
